Everett Henry Smith
Was born to Ida May Wood on May 22, 1925 and passed away on November 28, 2016. He was raised by Ida and John Smith in Gibbonsville, Idaho before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps on August 20, 1943. Upon completing his training he became a tail gunner on a B-17G bomber. He and his crew flew "The Big Drip, Jr.", spending 272 hours in combat flight from January 3 through April 5, 1945. They completed 34 missions, an exceptionally rare feat during that point of the war. He was honorably discharged on October 11, 1945 and married Clio Marie Lyne later that year on November 18. Together they raised their three children in Spokane, Washington. Everett used his charming personality in the furniture business until he retired in 1991. Through the years he developed many longtime friendships and enjoyed camping, boating and square dancing.
Everett is survived by his three children: Mark Smith (Spokane, WA), Kirk (Connie) Smith (Tigard, OR), Brian (Gina) Smith (Spokane, WA); his sister, Bea Peterson (Vancouver, WA); eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; 1 niece and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Phyllis Patrick and his wife of 68 years, Clio Smith.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son and friend. He remodeled several homes for his family, making each one a special home, and as a skilled carpenter and mechanic was always trying to stay ahead on his honey-do list. He enthusiastically supported all three of his boys in their numerous sporting endeavors. His joyful, comedic and caring spirit will be missed by so many.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Good Samaritan in Spokane, WA for their wonderful care they gave Everett and Clio over the last five years. Their service and compassion has been greatly appreciated by the family.
A Funeral Mass for Everett will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Otis Orchards, WA. A family interment will take place that same day at St. Joseph Cemetery in Spokane Valley. Please visit Everett's online memorial at www.hennesseyfuneralhomes.com.
